David Coffey, President of Baptist World Alliance (BWA)
David has served Baptist churches at national and international levels for more than half his forty one years in Christian ministry. His leadership within the UK Baptist community has included such roles as National Director of Evangelism (1988-91) and General Secretary of the Union (1991-2006). He has been Moderator representing all nineteen Free Church denominations in England and has served as President of the European Baptist Federation (1997–99). He was elected BWA President in 2005.
BWA General Secretary Neville Callam says of David, “His has been a life of service built on the foundation of vocational self-understanding and fuelled by a keen mind, an uncompromising commitment to excellence, and a readiness to serve for the sake of Christ and the Church.”
David his been married to Janet for 40 years and they have two adult children.
His published works include Build That Bridge, study in conflict and reconciliation in church life, and a commentary on Romans in The Crossway Bible Guide series.
David was honoured this year with an OBE for his services to inter-faith relations
On Tuesday 21st October, from 11.30am, David will be speaking in Morling Chapel on Matthew 14: 22-36 'When God call us to do the impossible'.
