Oprah is Coming to Town!
In September Oprah announced to her studio audience that she was taking them on a trip of a life-time, she was bringing them to Australia as part of her farewell tour. The audience screamed with excitement, tears of joy ran down their cheeks, people hugged one another and others were in shock, in awe of what they had heard.
Oprah has been on air for 25 years, and she is going out with a bang.
The question we can ask, as Christians, is what does Oprah believe? She gives away a fair amount of money, she has a rags to riches story, but does she profess to have faith in God?
Ross Clifford spoke on Sonshinefm about Oprah’s spirituality.
Oprah does some really good things, some very caring things for people. She has a heart for helping other people. Her idea of spirituality is based around the book ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne, which is focused on attractional living. She believes that the laws of universe are in control, that positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative.
Bad things happen to good people. Oprah has one side of the coin – it's true that thinking positively helps in your pursuit of life, but there are other controlling factors. We have to realise that we don’t control the world or universe. God may have a plan for us and that sometimes works through the darkest times. 'Sometimes we learn more from the valleys than the peaks' comments Ross.
As we come up to Christmas, we can remember God’s provision for us in the birth of Christ. Don’t let the hype of celebrity status and consumerism this holiday season overshadow the truth of Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
