Guardian Angels Watching Over?

Do we have guardian angels watching over us? There have been many news reports over the years of potentially disastrous situations, yet people walk away unharmed. A recent story comes to mind, which made world headlines. A pram containing a 15 month old was in rolled in the path of an oncoming train in Melbourne. The pram was dragged under the train for a short time. Amazingly the child received only a few scratches and bruises. The outcome of a near disaster was one of relief and amazement of the child’s survival. Some media reports claimed this to be a miraculous survival. So, was there more to this survival story than luck? Was there a guardian angel protecting this child?

It’s during these situations, such as the one pram and the train, that people look for an answer beyond the natural explanations and they seem to lean towards the idea of guardian angels looking after us.

Ross Clifford addressed the topic of guardian angels in a recent interview on Sonshine fm.

Ross commented on how people believe in guardian angels, without necessarily having a belief in Christianity.

Ross showed some of the evidence for angels and believes they are certainly around. We see plenty of examples in the Bible for the existence of angels. Jesus is surrounded by angels in his life; they are at Jesus’ birth, in times of trial and temptation, at his death and resurrection. There are angels who serve God, so there is no reason not to believe they aren’t around today.

But what about guardian angels? Is there evidence for us having guardian angels? Have a look at Psalm 91:11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways and Matthew 18:10 See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

There is much written in the Bible about angels, but not as much about guardian angels. This doesn’t mean they don’t exist. A reason for angels is to point us to worship God. Whether we each have a guardian angel assigned to us is unknown, but God provides. Take comfort in knowing that God does care for us and he provides for us. People acknowledge through these events there is evidence for a loving God who does miraculous things at particular times.

Ross concludes his interview by saying ‘People today are open; they understand there is more to this world than science and technology. They want other stories and when they hear stories of escape and rescue they think ‘This could be part of this other big story.’
Look to Jesus for the bigger story, see his care and his provision, no matter what comes our way and then angels and guardian angels make sense.
