Diploma of Theology / Diploma of Ministry

The DipTh and DipMin are intended as introductions to Christian studies. They provide a foundation of understanding and skills relevant for Christian service, particularly for those preparing for a support role in Christian ministry or for more effective service as a church member. There is a concern for theological understanding, skills for ministry and spiritual formation.

The two diplomas are similar, except that the DipTh requires more Biblical subjects than the DipMin, which has a greater proportion of ministry subjects.

For entry in the DipTh or DipMin, a person normally should have satisfactorily completed Year 12. Consideration can also be given to practical experience, maturity and motivation for study. Mature-age entry may be possible for applicants more than 20 years of age.

It is possible to continue on from the DipTh or DipMin to the Advanced Diploma of Ministry (AdvDipMin) and, if the required academic standard is reached, to gain partial credit for the Bachelor of Ministries or Bachelor of Theology. The Advanced Diploma of Theology is not normally available but special arrangements may be available by request.

The DipTh or DipMin may be completed in two years of full time study, or longer by part time study, and is available by distance education.

The regulations require the completion of 16 subjects including:

(i) six compulsory subjects: Formative Old Testament Traditions; From Israel to Judea; Content and Setting of the Gospel Traditions; Early New Testament Church; The Church to 1550 or The Church from 1550 to Modern Times; The Doctrine of God and the Person and Work of Christ or The Holy Spirit, Grace and Hope.

(ii) ten further subjects (including additional OT and NT) chosen from areas such as theology, pastoral ministry, evangelism, missions, youth ministry and children’s ministry. All Morling students take Supervised Experience Based Learning and a second theology subject.
