Certificate in Youth Ministry (Morling award)

Youth Ministry training courses offered by Morling College will provide you with a solid foundation in both the practical skills and knowledge necessary to plan and implement effective Christian youth ministry in a variety of settings. This course partners your ongoing practical experience with knowledge gained through focussed training conferences, allowing you to immediately apply your skills in your ministry setting. The Youth Ministry Training courses offered by Morling College are designed specifically to assist you as the student, in developing an effective youth ministry program in local church contexts, through para-church organizations, school based ministries and more. It is primarily suited to those currently working as youth pastors, youth workers, school workers and chaplains or to those interested in working in youth ministry in the future.

Undertaking a Youth Ministry Training course at Morling College will help you to ground your youth ministry in Biblical teaching. You will strengthen your ability to apply God’s word to life, teaching young people to do the same. The course will introduce you to contemporary and effective approaches to youth ministry; issues facing young people today; as well as an overview of youth culture and development.

Morling College offers the Youth Ministry Training courses for study at a variety of levels. Students may choose to complete the Youth Ministry Training as a Morling Award. This award will be achieved at the completion of the 4 core Youth Ministry subjects as two intensive courses and one elective. This is completed over a 2 year period in part-time study. You may also opt to undertake specialized Youth Ministry Training as part of an Advanced Diploma of Ministry, Bachelor of Ministry or Graduate Diploma of Divinity granted by the Australian College of Theology. The intensives will take place in the NSW School holiday period. Diploma and Degree level courses may be undertaken either full time or part-time and full time students may be eligible for Austudy.

The Course is taught by top practitioners in the field of youth ministry and Youth Development. Trainers include Youth Pastors, Psychologists, Youth Workers, School Chaplains and more.

The Youth Training courses offered by Morling College are endorsed by Baptist Youth Ministries NSW and ACT.

Core Units

Youth in the Churches – A course on how to design an effective, growing and disciple-making youth ministry in your church (Core).

Ministry with Non-Church Youth – A study of Biblical and ministry responses to reaching and caring for young people outside the church. This module provides you with strategies for contact, evangelism and compassion (Core).

Foundations for Youth Ministry – An introduction to contemporary and effective approaches to ministry with Australian youth. This module lays a Biblical and Theological foundation for youth ministry as well as an introduction to contemporary youth culture (Core).

Youth Development and Learning – A study of how youth develop and learn, and the cultural factors that shape their lives (Core).

Foundations for Youth Ministry and Youth Development and learning are covered as part of the Youth in the Churches and Ministry with Non Church Youth Intensives.

Elective Subjects

Youth Ministry Field Education – A chance to explore youth ministry through practical and hands-on ministry experience.

Youth Ministry Research Project – A supervised research project in your chosen area of youth ministry.
