Rev Dr Brian Powell
Vice Principal (Administration) – BA, BD, MEd, PhD
Brian Powell joined the faculty in 1983 as Lecturer in Theology. In 1992 he became Lecturer in New Testament and in 1994 was appointed as Academic Registrar. He became Vice Principal for administration in 2002.
He was a teacher for nine years before training for the Baptist ministry, gaining his BA (Hons) and Dip.Ed. at the University of Sydney before teaching English and History in state high schools. During his teaching career, Brian served as a department head (English) and gained his MEd from the University of Sydney. He graduated from Morling in 1981, and gained his BD (Hons) from
the Melbourne College of Divinity. While teaching at Morling he has completed a PhD in Pauline studies at Macquarie University.
Before beginning at Morling, Brian served as pastor of the Marrickville and Minto churches. While at the College he has served on the Baptist Churches’ Social Issues Committee and the Committee for the Ministry, which he chaired from 1996 to 2000. He also served as Head of the Department of Bible and Language of the Australian College of Theology for about ten years, and is currently Chair of the Academic Quality Committee of the Australian College of Theology.
Outside church life, Brian is an active Rotarian, and served as President of the North Ryde club in 2001-2002, and again in 2008-2009. Brian is married to Julie and they have two adult children, Megan (married to Anton) and Adam (married to Miranda). |
